Boat capsize: 5 bodies recovered from Padma
Police today recovered five bodies including three women and one minor boy, who went missing after a trawler capsized in the Padma river in Rajbari yesterday.
At least six people went missing when the engine-run trawler got capsized on Friday evening, our Kushtia correspondent reports quoting Nur-e-Alam Fakir, officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pangsha Police Station.
The victims were idenfieid as Rahmat Ali, 6, son of Ashraft Ali of Alokdia, Begum Khatun, 40, Farida begum, 20, housewife from Ramnagar, Halima Khatun, 50 and Dulal Uddin, 36, the OC said.
The trawler with at least 20 people on-board sank after getting struck by a strong current in the river at Harinbaria point under Pangsha upazila in the district around 6:30pm on Friday, the police official said.
"Rescue operation could not be launched immediately after the incident because of lack of light, we commenced all rescue drives at the daybreak," the OC added.
Among the six missing people, Raju, 6, from Alokdia village still remains so, police and family sources said.
Rescuers were continuing their search for the missing kid, till last reported.
