Best crime reports of 2019: The Daily Star journo receives double awards
The Daily Star journalist Mohammad Jamil Khan received double awards from the Crime Reporters Association Bangladesh (CRAB) for his investigative report on narcotics, and woman and child repression categories.
Jamil Khan received two crests and two cheques of Tk 30,000.
A total of eight journalists were awarded for their reports in 2019.
The other awardees are Ahmed Zayeef of Daily Prothom Alo for best investigative report (print/online), Khan Muhammad Rumel of Somoy Television and Shafiq Shaheen of NTV for best investigative report (television/radio), Asif Zaman Sumit of Dipta TV for best report on woman and child repression (television/radio), Dipan Dewan of Banglavision for best report on human rights (television/ radio) and Amanur Rahman Rony of Bangla Tribune for best report on human rights (Akhtaruzzaman Lablu Memorial Medal) award.
Crime reporters are the mirrors of the police, Md Asaduzzaman, additional deputy inspector general of Dhaka Range, said while speaking as a special guest at the CRAB Best Reporting Award-2019 held at Dhaka Reporters' Unity's Nasrul Hamid Auditorium.
He said that the crime reporters highlighted all the negative and positive aspects of the police in their reports. "By this, we can know our mistakes," said the police official.
Additional DIG Md Asaduzzaman, Additional DIG (Ops & Intelligence) of Dhaka Range Noor Alam Mia, CRAB President Abul Khayer, CRAB Vice President Morsalin Babla and General Secretary Asaduzzaman Biku handed over the crests and prize money to the awardees.
Addressing the occasion, Asaduzzman said that there was no Friday or Saturday for the police and journalists, and they work for the good of the society.
"We will develop the society through mutual cooperation," he added.
The leaders of the CRAB Executive Committee-2019 were given crests of honor in the ceremony.
At the beginning of the programme, a minute's silence was observed in memory of the people of the country who died due to Covid-19 infection.
