B’baria attack: Rasraj denied bail

A Brahmanbaria court today denied a petition seeking bail for Rasraj Das, who was detained following a Facebook post that "instigated" attacks on Hindu community in Nasirnagar upazila of the district.

The Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court also rejected a petition seeking a fresh five-day remand for Rasraj in connection with the case filed over a Facebook post 'instigating' the attack on October 30.

The court passed the orders after police produced Rasraj before it on completion of his five-day remand, said Investigation Officer Mijanur Rahman, a sub-inspector of Brahmanbaria police. 

Meanwhile, the court also granted a three-day remand for six people in another case filed for their alleged involvement in the attack after police produced eight people, who were among 33 people held in overnight drives on November 4, before the court seeking three days' remand for each, the police official added.

On October 30, around 200 religious bigots attacked at least five temples, and vandalised and looted about 100 Hindu houses in several localities in Nasirnagar. The attackers also beat up more than 100 people.

The two-hour long mayhem was blamed over a Facebook post purportedly from the account of Rasraj Das, 27.

The youth, a fisherman by profession, was detained after a case was filed against him in this regard.
