Bay storm ‘Kyant’ slowly moving west
Bangladesh's coastal ports have been advised to maintain warning signal 2 with cyclonic storm "Kyant" lurking in the distance at the Bay of Bengal.
All fishing boats and trawlers have been told to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution, a warning notice of the Met office said this morning.
The storm was centering at 12:00am on Wednesday about 610 km south-southwest of Chittagong port, 540 km south-southwest of Cox's Bazar port, 610 km south of Mongla port and 555 km south of Payra port.
It is likely to intensify further and move in a westerly direction, said a special weather bulletin.
The maximum sustained wind speed within 54 km of the cyclone centre is about 62 kph, rising to 88 kph in gusts/squalls. Sea will remain very rough near the storm centre.
Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted distant signal no 2.
