Attack on Hindus: Nasirnagar OC withdrawn

Star Online Report

The officer-in-charge of Nasirnagar Police Station has been withdrawn following the mayhem on Hindu community that left five temples vandalised and over 100 homes ransacked in the area.

Abdul Quader was withdrawn this afternoon due to "negligence in his duty", Brahmanbaria Superintendent of Police Mizanur Rahman told The Daily Star.

The OC was withdrawn soon after Hindu-Bouddha-Christian Oikyo Parishad gave a 48-hour ultimatum to withdraw Nasirnagar upazila nirbahi officer and the OC today.

The ultimatum came during a rally held by the eminent citizens, National Human Rights Commission and Hindu-Bouddha-Christian Oikyo Parishad and others who visited the affected Hindu community areas, temples at Nasirnagar today.

On Sunday, around 200 religious bigots attacked at least five temples, and vandalised and looted about 100 Hindu houses in several localities in Nasirnagar over a Facebook post purportedly from the account of one Rasraj Das. The attackers also beat up more than 100 people.
