Embezzling Tk 26 lakh: Arrest warrant issued against Patuakhali's ex-Civil Surgeon

Star Digital Report

A Patuakhali court issued an arrest warrant against the former Civil Surgeon of the district today. The warrant was issued after the court accepted the charge sheet of a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission for misappropriating Tk 26 lakh through fake vouchers.

Patuakhali Senior Special Judge Rokhsana Parveen issued the order against Dr Shah Mozahidul Islam, former civil surgeon of Patuakhali district, currently serving as the deputy director of M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital in Dinajpur.

On February 16, ACC Assistant Director Mozammil Hossain submitted the charge sheet with the court this year regarding the allegation against him.

ACC lawyer Advocate KBM Ariful Haque Titu said as the in-charge of Dumki Upazila Health Complex was on leave, the Civil Surgeon Mozahidul was given charge of the health complex in 2017.

During that time, under the 2017-18 fiscal year, Tk 30 lakh was allocated for the health complex from the Community Based Health Care Department for cleanliness but Dr Mozahidul misappropriated Tk 26,67,898 by using fake vouchers, dodging VAT and income tax.

On November 13, 2018, ACC Deputy Assistant Director Manik Lal Das filed a case with Patuakhali Police Station after finding the allegation against him true.
