Arrest order of 3 Kushtia cops for farmer killing

A Kushtia court today issued arrest warrant against three policemen for their alleged involvement in killing a farmer in "gunfight" back in 2007.

The accused are Anwar Hossain, then officer-in-charge of Kushtia Islamic University Police Station, and two sub-inspectors Jalal Uddin and Faruk Hossain.

They picked up Daud Hossain, a farmer of Krittinagar village in Sadar upazila, and killed him in the name of "gunfight" on January 19, 2007, reports our local correspondent.

Following the incident, Romeja Khatun wife of the victim filed a case against the three policemen with the police station on February 2, 2007, case record shows.

The family later found Daud's bullet-hit body on Kushtia-Jhenidah highway. The policemen said to have demanded Tk 3 lakh for release of Daud before his death.

After today's proceedings concluded, Kushtia Senior Judicial Magistrate Mizanur Rahman issued the arrest warrant against the three policemen – who are currently stationed elsewhere.
