AL leader hacked to death

A local Awami League leader was hacked to death near Shorabpur Shayestabad School in Shahzadpur upazila of Sirajganj district on Monday night.

The deceased is Korban Ali, 45, secretary of Kayemkola union unit of AL, and son of Abdul Aziz of Shartoli village in the upazila.

Police said a gang attacked Korban with sharp weapons, leaving him dead on the spot, when he was returning home from Kashinathpur Bazar around 10:30pm.

Rivals might have killed Korban over previous enmity, said Rezaul Haque, officer-in-charge of Shahzadpur Police Station.

Away in Satkhira, police recovered the body of an unidentified youth from a canal in Panchpota area under Tala upazila of the district the same day.

The body was sent to Satkhira Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, reports a correspondent.
