Afzal's arrest demanded

Local people, including family members of the five-year-old rape victim, formed a human chain at Jamirhat village in Parbatipur upazila yesterday, demanding immediate arrest and capital punishment of Afzal Hossain, another accused in the case.   

The participants came down heavily on police as they are yet to arrest Afzal.

The law enforcers are actually doing nothing as they are yet to get any vital information from prime accused Saiful Islam, 42, who was remanded for seven days, said family members at the rally.

They also threatened to go for tougher agitation if their demand was not met immediately.

On October 18, the girl was playing near her home at Jamirhat. Around evening, her mother noticed that she was missing.

Next morning, villagers found her lying bloodied and unconscious on a field.

She was rushed to Rangpur Medical College Hospital and then shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as her condition worsened.

Later, police arrested Saiful.

A Dinajpur court granted seven-day remand for Saiful on October 27, said SI Swapan Kumar Roy.
