Action against two journos demanded

A procession was brought out in the town yesterday, demanding lawful steps against two local journalists who were allegedly involved in giving pressure to a witness not to testify in the International Crimes Tribunal against accused in a case pending with the court.

'Amra Muktijuddher Uttaradhikar' a local unity, organised the programme.

People from all walks of life including freedom fighters, local leaders and activists of Awami League took part in the procession that started from AL office and ended in front of deputy commissioner's office where a street corner meeting was also arranged.

Patuakhali AL joint secretary Kazi Alamgir Hossain and advocate Sowmendra Lal Chanda spoke at the programme.

They later submitted memorandum to the prime minister through the DC.

Jafor Khan, Patuakhali correspondent of Daily Jugantor, and Zakir Hossain, Patuakhali correspondent of Daily Inqilab and New Age, went to Itbaria village in Patuakhali Sadar upazila on October 19 and met Monowara Begum, a Birangona and the witness, said police.

They told her not to testify against the accused. She did not agree to do so. Later, Monowara filed a general diary with Sadar Police Station.

Meanwhile, police on Monday arrested the journalists in an extortion case filed by a local fish trader. They were released on bail the following day.
