8 children fled from Jashore correctional facility: police
Eight inmates, aged between 14-17, of Jashore Child Development Centre fled from the establishment early today, authorities claimed.
The incident took place after they were put in isolation last night, a high official of Jashore district police told The Daily Star.
The children were sent from other districts and were kept in isolation as part of Covid-19 safety measure before being put inside cells, the official said.
"They broke the toilet window of the isolation centre to get out. Then they used a ladder to climb over the prison wall," the police official added.
The official further claimed that this has been happening frequently. "The main reason behind such incidents is weakness of the management," the official added.
Contacted, Towhidul Islam, additional superintendent of Jashore district police, told this newspaper that the incident happened around 2:15am. "We have already collected CCTV footage and are conducting drive to trace their whereabouts," he added
