7 get life for murder

A court here yesterday sentenced seven people to life imprisonment for killing a sand trader in Jessore town in 2012.

The convicts are Sumon Chowdhury, Raihan, Roki, Sabuj, Sohag, Jahangir and Nahid Alam Nayan.

The court also fined them Tk 5,000 each. In default, they are to suffer one year more in jail.

According to the prosecution, some miscreants hacked sand trader Bappi to death in Chachra Dalmil area of Jessore town on March 11, 2012 following an altercation over sand trading.

Victim's father M Monir Hossain filed a case against eight people with Jessore Kotwali Police Station the same day.

On December 26, 2013, Soyeb Ahmed, sub-inspector of Kotwali Police Station, submitted a charge sheet against nine people to a court.

Later, the case was transferred to Khulna Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal from the Jessore court for quick disposal.
