5 die inhaling septic tank gas in Jessore
Five construction workers died inhaling toxic gas while repairing a septic tank at Keshabpur upazila in Jessore this afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Ahad Ali Gazi, 45, and Shafiqul Islam, 23, of Barandali village and Abdul Hamid, 22, Iqbal Hossain, 35, and Ibad Hossain, 28, of neighbouring Shahapur village, reports our local correspondent.
They died inhaling toxic gas inside a septic tank, said Shahidul Islam, officer-in-charge of Keshabpur Police Station.
Police and witnesses said the workers were repairing a septic tank of one Ojiar Rahman near Sarashkathi Degree College in the upazila.
The workers entered into the tank one by one but did not come out of it even after a long time.
On information, a team of firefighters rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies from inside the tank, police said.
The bodies were sent to Jessore Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, Shahidul Islam said.
