5 burnt to death as house catches fire in Thakurgaon

Five people including four of a family were burnt alive as their house caught fire from a snapped electricity wire early today in Pirganj upazila of Thakurgaon.

The victims were Khoresh Chandra Roy, 42, a police constable of Dinajpur Kotwali Police Station, his wife Tiya Rani Roy, 35, daughter Naice Roy, 10, son Nirnoy Roy, 8, and Khoresh's sister-in-law Sondha Rani Roy, 22.

Assistant director of Thakurgaon Fire Service and Civil Defense Anisur Rahman told our Thakurgaon correspondent that the incident occurred around 5:15am.

Anisur said an electric supply live wire tore down on the house of Khoresh Chandra Roy and electrified the house causing the fire that soon spread to all the rooms.

Of the victims Tiya Rani Roy and her sister Sondha Rani Roy died on the spot while fire-fighters rescued the rest three persons and brought them to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital.

As the condition of the trio deteriorated, the doctors referred them to Rangpur Medical College Hospital where the three burn victims succumbed.
