4 Myanmar nationals among 7 arrested

Rapid Action Battalion today busted an international Yaba smuggling syndicate and arrested seven smugglers including four Mayanmar nationals in drive on a fishing trawler on the Bay of Bengal off Chittagong coast.

Rab also recovered a consignment of 7 lakh Yaba tablets worth Tk 28 crore from their possession, reports our correspondent quoting Rab-7 officials.

"Acting on a tip off that a large consignment of Yaba tablets was heading from Myanmar to Patharghata of Barguna district, the law enforcers conducted a drive at the sea," said Colonel Miftah Uddin Ahmed, commanding officer of Rab-7.

They chased fishing trawler MV RIFA and at around 1:30pm found seven lakh pieces of yaba tablets hidden under the deck of the trawler, Mifti said adding: "During the interrogation, the smugglers admitted that they had smuggled 6 lakh tablets from Myanmar to Barishal district in three different consignments."
