4 missing cattle traders’ bodies found in Meghna
Bodies of four cattle traders, who went missing on Tuesday after a boat carrying them capsized in the Meghna river, were recovered in Raipura upazila of Narsingdi this morning.
The bodies of Anwar Farazi, 45, Abdul Huq, 35, Farid Mia, 45, and Khalil Mia, 35 were recovered in Nilikhar Char area, our Narsingdi correspondent reports quoting Azharul Islam, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Raipura Police Station.
The bodies were sent to the victims' relatives, the police official added.
On Tuesday, the boat carrying six people, 12 cows and huge amount of timber capsized in the middle of the river due to stormy wind.
The people were travelling from a remote char called Bhelua to Bhatkhola in the upazila, the OC said.
Golap Mia, the owner of the boat, and Suruj Mia, a timber businessman, managed to swim to the shore immediately after the accident.
Police with help of locals tried to search for the missing people on Tuesday night. But their search was hampered due to strong tides in the river, the police official said.
Later on Wednesday, Narsingdi firefighters recovered the boat.
District administration has formed a three-member investigation committee headed by Additional District Magistrate Rehan Uddin.
It will submit its report in three days, the correspondent said.
