4 killed in Gazipur road crash

Four people were killed and 21 injured as a pickup van carrying labourers hit a tree in Kaliganj upazila of Gazipur this morning.

The accident took place near Ulukhola bridge on Mirer Bazar-Rupganj road around 7:30am, leaving the pickup van driver and three passengers dead on the spot.

The victims were admitted to different medical centres including Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex, our Gazipur correspondent reports quoting police. 

Details about the victims were not known immediately.

"We suspect that the driver was sleepy and was driving the vehicle amid dense fog," said Alam Chand, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kaliganj Police Station.

A group of 23 labourers hired the pickup van at Rupganj for travelling to Netrakona, the OC said.     

Yesterday, six people died and six others were injured in a head-on collision between a human haulier and a passenger bus on Dhaka-Tangail highway in Gazipur.
