4 journos hurt in gamblers’ attack in Tangail
Four journalists were injured, two of them severely, as a group of gamblers attacked them in Bhuapur upazila of Tangail this afternoon.
The injured journalists are Sohel Talukder, local correspondent of private television channel DBC, camera person of the channel Ashikur Rahman, Ovijit Ghosh, Bhuapur upazila correspondent of the Daily Ittefaq, and Mohaimenul Mondol, correspondent of the Daily Ekusher Bani.
They were undergoing treatment at Tangail General Hospital.
The injured journalists said gambling has been going on in Govindasi area for long.
When they went there for covering the news, the gamblers by local influential Fazal Mondol, also general secretary of Govindasi Union Truckers Association, attacked them, they alleged.
The gamblers also damaged their cameras, snatched away from their mobile phones and took their signatures on plain papers, they said.
Later, local people rescued the injured journalists and rushed them to the hospital.
Rashidul Islam, officer-in-charge of Bhuapur Police Station, said they will take necessary steps in this regard after getting a complaint from the injured journalists.
