4 ‘JMB men’ held in Bagerhat

Law enforcers claimed to have arrested four members of the banned militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) in Bagerhat Sadar upazila early today.

The arrestees were identified as Md Murshed Alam, 20, Saiful Islam, 36, and Maksudur Rahman alias Tota, 20, from Satkhira, and Zahirul Islam, 20, from Pirojpur, according to police.

Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid at Christian Palli area around 12:30am and arrested them while the militants were holding a meeting there, said Pankaj Chandra Roy, superintendent of police in Bagerhat.

They are active members of the JMB, the police official told our Bagerhat correspondent adding that the law enforcers recovered a pistol, two bomb-like substance, bomb-making materials and two sharp weapons.
