Star Online Report

At least three Bangladeshis including mother and son were killed and two others injured in a fatal road crash in Arafat Maidan area of Makka in Saudi Arabia last afternoon.

The victims were identified as Hena Akter, 45, and her son Arif Ahmed, 22 from Dhaka's Dhanmondi and Rokeya Begum, 40, from Narsingdi, Altaf Hossain, first secretary at Bangladesh Consulate in Jeddah, told The Daily Star over phone.

The two injured are Sohrab Hossain, 50, and Hafsa, 13, he said.

The accident took place when a car crashed onto another car carrying the Bangladeshis to Makka, Altaf mentioned quoting locals.

"Our officials have already visited the spot and hospital to gather more information about the accident," he told this correspondent.

The Bangladeshis might visit Saudi Arabia for performing Umrah but not confirmed yet, the official said.

The bodies of the three were kept at Al Noor Hospital mortuary while the two injured were admitted to a local hospital, he mentioned.

Every year many Bangladeshis go to Saudi to perform umrah.
