25 injured in Jamalpur

At least 25 people were injured in a clash between the men of two defeated member aspirants of Monday's UP election at Charpakerdah village in Charpakerdah union under Madarganj upazila on Tuesday.

Police and locals said member candidate Lavlu Mondal, 40, and his neighbour Kamal Pramanik, 45, were defeated in Charpakerdah union parishad election on Monday. Later, they blamed each other for the defeat.

On Tuesday night, Lavlu and Kamal locked in an altercation over the issue. At one stage of the altercation, Lavlu punched Kamal, leaving him injured, said police.

As the news spread, the men of Kamal equipped with lethal weapons attacked the house of Lavlu, triggering a clash that left at least 25 people from both sides injured, said Billal Uddin, officer-in-charge of Madarganj Police Station.
