2 Sylhet eateries fined for serving wild and migratory bird meat
A hotel and a restaurant in Jaintiapur upazila of Sylhet have been fined a total of Tk 15,000 for serving wild and migratory bird meat to their customers.
Jaintiapur upazila administration this afternoon conducted a mobile court drive at different restaurants of Haripur bazaar in the upazila to stop selling of cooked wild and migratory birds, reports our Sylhet staff correspondent.
The drive, led by the Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nahida Parvin, fined Taru Miah Hotel and another adjacent restaurant a total of Tk 15,000 over the matter.
The poaching, selling, and consumption of wild birds are prohibited and are punishable offences under the Wildlife (Conservation and Security) Act, 2012.
Earlier yesterday, The Daily Star published reports in its English and Bangla online versions about five Sylhet city councillors feasting on wild birds at a restaurant in the bazaar.
During today's drive, the administration told the restaurants not to sell wild birds and warned of stricter action against those who would do so.
