2 Shibir leaders arrested with books on jihad, CDs
Police arrested two leaders of Islami Chhatra Shibir from Fakirpur village in Santhia upazila of the district yesterday.
The arrestees are Md Abul Kalam Azad, 27, president of Gourigram union unit of Shibir, and Nazmul Haque, 20, organiser of Dhulauri union unit of the party.
Informed that a group of Shibir men were holding a secret meeting at the village a police team raided the area and arrested the two, said Officer-in-Charge of Santhia Police Station Md Nasir Uddin. However, the rest managed to flee the scene.
Police also seized a number of books on jihad, CDs and four motorbikes from the spot, said the OC.
In Jhenidah, a leader of Jamaat-e-Islami was picked up by 'plainclothes police' from Natun Hatkhola area in the district town the same day, reports our correspondent.
He is Nur Mohammad, 62, nayeb-e-ameer of the district unit of Jamaat, and former chairman of Sadar Upazila Parishad.
Mohammad's son Mujahidul Islam said when his father was getting his motorbike repaired in the area around 1:30pm, a microbus reached there and some unidentified men in plain dress introducing themselves as police swooped on him and handcuffed him.
Since then he remained missing and his mobile phone remained switched off.
Contacted, Assistant Sub-Inspector Ashok Kumar, duty officer of Sadar Police Station, said they have not arrested any man named Nur Mohammad.
No police has arrested any man yesterday, said Hasan Hafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of the police station.
Earlier on January 24, Jamaat activist Abu Hurayera, a madrasa teacher of Kutidurgapur village in Sadar upazila, had been picked up and his body was recovered from Jessore's Ambottala area 36 days after the incident.
