2 Sherpur rice dealers fined

A mobile court here yesterday fined two dealers for giving less wheat to buyers at Open Market Sale (OMS) at government fixed fair price.

The convicts are Kohinoor Begum of Madhabpur area and Md Jahangir Alam of Meerganj area in the district town.

Executive Magistrate Md Moktadirul Islam, who led the court, fined them Tk 10,000 each. In default, they are to suffer seven days' imprisonment.

Upazila administration and court sources said, they had secret information that some dealers had been giving less rice and wheat to buyers in OMS.

In a drive, the court found the two dealers at some shops giving 500 grams to 900 grams less on sale of 5 kgs of wheat to the beneficiaries under the programme, said magistrate Moktadirul Islam.
