2 schoolboys drown in Gazipur pond

Two schoolboys have drowned in a pond at a village in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur.

The deceased were identified as Towhidul Islam Saif (17), son of Tarikul Islam Dulal of Boherchala village, and Nazmul Hossain (8), son of Abdul Jalil of Bhandaria upazila in Pirojpur, our Gazipur correspondent reports quoting police and locals.

Saif passed his SSC exams this year while Nazmul, who used to live with his parents in Ansar Road area of Sreepur upazila, was a class one student of a local kindergarten school, locals said.

Khondaker Imam Hossain, officer-in-charge of Sreepur Police Station, said Saif and Nazmul went missing while they along with their friends were bathing in a pond which was about 25 feet deep, in Boherachala village yesterday noon.

On information, a diving team of Fire Service and Civil Defence rushed to the spot and recovered the body of Saif around 9:00pm, said the OC.

The floating body of Nazmul was recovered around 6:00am today, added the police official.
