2 killed as bus plunges into Madaripur ditch

At least two passengers were killed and many went missing after a bus plunged into a roadside ditch in Kalkini upazila of Madaripur early today.

Identities of the deceased could not be ascertained immediately.

Police and divers recovered two bodies after a Barisal-bound bus of Eagle Paribahan fell into a water-filled ditch near Pantapara Tanti Bridge in Mostofapur area around 4:45am, Md Emdadul Haque, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kalkini Police Station, told The Daily Star.

Nearly 10-12 passengers managed to come out of the bus that started from Dhaka while many of them still remain missing, the OC said.

The exact number of missing passengers could not be ascertained immediately, police said.

Divers from Barisal are conducting search operation to rescue the passengers, he added.
