2 DU students drown in Padma

Divers recovered the bodies of two Dhaka University students who drowned in the Padma river at Dohar in Dhaka district this afternoon.

The deceased Abrar Tazuwar Nirjhor, 18, of Dhaka's Uttara and Ahmed Hasan, 20, of Dhanmondi are first-year students of economics in the university, reports our Munshiganj correspondent.

A group of 14 students of the department went to Moinot Ghat in Dohar to pass their leisure on the riverbank. Strong current washed Abrar and Hasan away when they, along with others, were taking bath in the river around 2:30pm, witnesses said.

On information, divers from Bangabazar Fire Service Station managed to recover the bodies from the river around 5:30pm, said Unit Officer Sarwar Khan of the fire service station.

Dohar Upazila Nirbahi Officer KM Al-Amin and Dohar Police Station Officer-in-charge Sheikh Serajul Islam visited the spot.
