150 BNP men sued for killing AL activist

At least 150 BNP men have been sued on charge of killing an Awami League activist in Buriganj union under Shibganj upazila of the district.

The victim is Mahatab Uddin, 45, nephew of AL backed chairman candidate in the union, and son of late Bader Mondal of Khadail Dakkhinpara in the upazila.

The accused include BNP nominated chairman aspirant Obaidul Islam, 45, his bother Kamrul Islam, 38, Rashed Islam, 34, Ibrahim Mia, 34, Nazrul Islam, 34, Jahedur Rahman, 45, Belal, 32 and Hafizar, 23. 

The deceased's wife Amirunnesa filed the case on Tuesday, said Kamruzzaman Mia, inspector of Shibganj Police Station.

Police arrested 11 people in the case, he said, adding that they were produced in a court that sent them to jail on Wednesday.

On Monday night, a clash took place between the supporters of BNP and AL backed aspirants over conducting campaign for the upcoming union parishad election at Khadail village in the upazila.

Mahatab was killed and three others were injured during the clash.
