13 BNP-Jamaat men among 35 arrested in 4 districts
At least 35 people, including 13 BNP and Jamaat-Shibir men, were arrested during special drives by law enforcers in Jessore, Lalmonirhat, Satkhira and Kishoreganj districts on Monday and the day before.
A team of joint forces in separate drives arrested four BNP activists at different villages in Chowgachha upazila of Jessore early Monday, reports our Benapole correspondent.
The arrestees are Kutub Uddin of Bakpara village, Mizanur Rahman of Kayapara village, Rabiul Islam of Panchnamna village and Mostafizur Rahman Mostaq of the same village in the upazila.
They were arrested on charge of planning subversive activities, said Sikder Akkas Ali, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station.
However, family members claimed that the four were held as they took part in the campaign for the BNP-backed candidate in the upcoming municipal polls.
In Lalmonirhat, Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested an activist of Jamaat-e-Islami in Judge Court area of the district town on Monday, reports our correspondent.
The arrestee is advocate Firoz Haider Lavlu, 38, a member of the district unit of Jamaat, and vice chairman of Aditmari Upazila Parishad.
He was arrested on sabotage charge, said Mahfuzur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.
Away in Satkhira, a team of joint forces arrested 25 people, including three Jamaat activists from different areas of the district on Monday and the day before on various charges, reports UNB.
Enamul Haque, sub-inspector of district police, said a team comprising police, Rapid Action Battalion and Border Guard Bangladesh conducted drives in eight upazilas of the district and arrested the 25 people, including three Jamaat men.
Among the arrestees, 12 are from Sadar upazila, four from Kolaroa, one from Tala, one from Kaliganj, two from Ashashuni, one from Debhata, one from Patkelghata and three from Shymnagar.
In Kishoreganj, police in a drive arrested a leader and four members of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir from a house in Battirish Bilpara area of the district town on Monday, reports UNB.
The arrestees are Jahangir Alam, general secretary of the district unit of Shibir, and Monjurul Islam, Khairul Islam, Faijul Amin, and Ali Hossain Roni, members of the unit.
Officer-in-Charge of Kishoreganj Model Police Station Mir Mosharaf Hossain said on secret formation, they raided the house in the area and arrested the five.
They were planning to carry out subversive activities, said the OC.
Police also recovered a number of books of religious uprising, leaflets and CDs from the spot.
