100 injured in Habiganj clash
At least 100 people were injured in a clash at Agua village in Baniarchang upazila of Habiganj on Wednesday night.
Of them, five were admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, 20 to the upazila health complex, 15 to Habiganj Sadar Modern Hospital and the rest given first aid.
Police and locals said an altercation took place between supporters of Badrul Mia and Sohel Mia of the village over establishing supremacy in the area.
At one stage, the rival groups equipped with lethal weapons attacked each other, leaving at least 100 people from both sides injured, said Amullay Kumar Chakrabarty, officer-in-charge of Baniarchang Police Station.
On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control, said the OC.
Riot police have been deployed in the area to avert any further trouble, he said.
