10 robbers arrested with arms in Tangail

Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested ten robbers at Tangail Sadar upazila on Saturday night.

They also recovered two pistols, four bullets, knives and mobile sets from their possession.

The arrestees are Johirul Islam, 30, of Chakta village; Liton Miah, 25, and Rabbi Miah, 18, of Kodalia village; Mofizul Islam, 20, and Ariful Islam, 20, of Gala village; Alamgir Hossain, 27, of Sadullapur village; Amin Shikder, 28, of Deola village in Tangail Sadar upazila; Razu Ahmed, 28, of Nagar Bhatgram village in Mirzapur upazila; and Jahidul Islam, 26, and Mohammad Habibullah, 22, of Asharia village in Ghatail upazila.

Acting on a tip-off, members of the elite force raided a house at Sadullapur village in the upazila and arrested the gang members. They were preparing for committing a robbery, in the area, said Mohiuddin Faruki, commander of Crime Prevention Company-3 of Rab-12.  

The arrested robbers are accused in several criminal cases, including for robbery, filed with different police stations in Dhaka and Tangail districts, the Rab commander added.

Rab handed over the robbers to Tangail Model Police the same night and filed two separate cases--one for possessing illegal arms and another for attempted robbery-- against them, he added.
