10 injured in clash over land dispute
At least ten people were injured in a clash between two groups of people over land dispute at Bestopur village under Shailakupa upazila of the district yesterday.
Five of the injured--Mofizur Rahman, 35, Monirul Islam, 24, Amirul Islam, 35, and Mamun Hossain, 22--were admitted to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital while the rest were given first aid at the upazila health complex.
Police quoted locals as saying that there had been a longstanding dispute between Sattar Hossain and Bablur Rahman of the village over the ownership of a land.
At around 9:00am, Sattar and Bablu locked in an altercation over the issue. After a few minutes, supporters of the two equipped with lethal weapons swooped on each other, leaving at least 10 people from both sides injured.
Being informed by locals, law enforcers from Shailakupa Police Station rushed to the village and dispersed the clashing groups.
Contacted, officer-in-charge (OC) Mohibul Islam said police have been deployed in the area to avert further untoward incident.
