3 held during ‘cell tower battery theft’

Three people have been detained following a reported attempt to steal a mobile phone tower battery in Brahmanbaria’s Akhaura upazila.

The detainees are Rubel Mia, 28, Mobarak Mia, 22, and Saddam Hossain, 30, all employees of a third-party mobile tower maintenance company.

Tarek Ahmed, assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Dharkhar Police Outpost, told our Brahmanbaria correspondent that a security person caught them red handed.

According to what he said, the trio entered the control room of the mobile phone tower at Ranikhar village, Dharkhar union, around 9:45pm last night.

Monirul Islam Bhuiyan, a security person, caught the them red handed. The trio attacked him and confined him inside a room when he resisted.

Hearing his screams, villagers gathered and restrained the alleged thieves before informing police. Later, police went to the spot and detained them.

Police also recovered a pickup van with some tools and the battery in the area.
