Cotton warehouse in Rajshahi city gutted in fire
A cotton warehouse (godown) was gutted in a fire in Gonokpara area of Rajshahi city this afternoon.
The fire broke out around 1:30pm, Jakir Hossain, deputy assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defense in Rajshahi said.
Two units of fire service struggled for one and half hours to take control over the fire, but the fire fighters were still working on putting off the fire around 5:30pm.
There were no casualties in the fire, reports our Rajshahi staff correspondent.
The fire fighters said they were informed ten minutes after the fire broke out.
The 900 square-feet warehouse was located in a tin-roof semi-concrete building.
It was divided into two parts -- one part was rented out for storing cotton and the other part was used to store electric goods.
Both cotton and electric goods were gutted after the fire broke out in the cotton warehouse first, said the fire fighters.
The reason behind the fire and its damage could not be ascertained yet.
