Customs commissioner Hossain Ahmed dies of Covid-19
Hossain Ahmed, customs and VAT commissioner of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), died of Covid-19 infection today.
He breathed his last in the capital's Kurmitola General Hospital at 4.30 pm.
Ahmed had been undergoing treatment at the hospital with Covid-19 for around two weeks, said Syed A Momen, NBR spokesperson.
In a condolence message, Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem, chairman of the tax administrator, said he was personally saddened by the death of Ahmed and prayed for the forgiveness of the departed soul.
Ahmed always tried to uphold the dignity of the customs department, Muneem said.
He also conveyed his deepest condolences on behalf of the NBR officials and employees to the bereaved family and children of the deceased.
Ahmed had been working in both the customs and VAT departments as a commissioner since January 2019.
