Constable found critically injured near home in Dhaka’s Rampura

A police personnel was found critically injured near his house in Dhaka's Rampura area this morning.

It is not clear yet whether Jahidul Islam (40), a constable working with Central Command and Control Centre, accidently fell from the three-storey building, police said.

With hands and legs broken and injuries in the head, he is being treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Enamul Haque, caretaker of the building, said his wife saw a cigarette packet and a mobile phone on the rooftop as she went to inspect the water tank around 6:00am.

"A fan was on at the constable's house but he was not there. My wife went back to the rooftop and saw a body next to the building," he said.

On information, police rushed there and took Jahidul to hospital.

Enamul said Jahidul used to live on the second floor with his wife and children who went to their village home three days ago.

"The door to the rooftop is usually kept locked but the policeman's wife took it from me a couple of days ago saying they would dry clothes there," he claimed.

Shafiqul Islam, owner of the building, said the constable, who has been living there for two years, could not pay house rent in last 10 months as -- according to Jahidul -- he faced some problems at work.

Abdul Kuddus Fakir, officer-in-charge of Rampura Police Station, said the rooftop has no railing and they are trying to figure out what actually happened.

Asked, the OC said he has no information on whether the constable was suspended.
