RCC staff strike for implementation of govt-fixed wage

Star Online Report

Several hundred employees of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) today went on a wildcat strike demanding immediate implementation of the latest wage structure fixed by the government.
The protesting RCC employees padlocked the entrance of the city corporation building around 9:30am, paralysing all office activities, our Rajshahi staff correspondent reports from spot.
Rajshahi City Corporation Employees’ Union called the strike to press home their 11-point demand including implementation of the wage.
The finance ministry in a circulation last year fixed Tk 500 to 550 as the minimum wage but the city corporation authorities have yet to implement it, said Azmir Ahmed Mamun, general secretary of the employees’ union.
“We will continue the strike until our demands are met,” he also said.
