Woman, son die as boat capsizes

A woman and her son drowned as an overcrowded shallow-engine-run boat carrying them capsized in the Jinjira river at Dangdhora in Dewanganj upazila on Thursday night.

The dead were Smriti Begum, 38, and Jim, 11, of Kurigram district.

Other passengers, including her husband, Belal Hossain, and another son managed to swim ashore, said police.
