Woman gang raped in Ctg, 4 held

Star Online Report

A woman was gang raped by five people after the perpetrators confined her husband inside a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Chattogram's Bayezid area earlier today.

Police arrested four of the five rapists after conducting drives, and rescued the victim from their custody, said police.

The arrestees are Badsha Mia (36), Md Jabed (24), Md Rabin (19) and Ibrahim (30), said police. Of the five, another man, Md Safi (34), is on the run, our Chattogram correspondent reports quoting police.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (North Zone) Ashikur Rahaman of CMP told our correspondent that the couple (victim and her husband) were waylaid by the perpetrators in Oxygen-Alpana Club area around 10:30pm last night, while they were returning home after work.

"The criminals first charged the duo, and asked them to show evidence of their spousal relationship. At one point, they forcibly picked up the couple on a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in the name of going to an imam," said ADC Ashik.

However, after roaming different areas of Bayezid, the criminals took the couple to Shahid Nagar area around 1:30am and raped the woman inside a room of one Salma Colony there, said the ADC.

During the incident, the victim's husband was held inside the auto-rickshaw by the criminals, ADC Ashikur said.

Priton Sarker, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bayezid Bostami Police Station, said police got a phone call at emergency number 999 around 2:00 am, rescued the victim from the area and made arrests.

The victim was sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for medical testing and a case was lodged in this connection, added the OC.
