Veteran lawyer requests SC for quick release of full verdicts
Senior counsel ABM Nurul Islam yesterday urged the Supreme Court to release the full verdicts in all cases shortly after they are pronounced in the open court for their quick implementation.
"The chief justice may give an instruction so that the judges sign judgments in 15 days after pronouncing them for their release," he told a press conference at the media centre of the Supreme Court Bar Association.
Nurul Islam, who has been practicing law for 54 years, said there were numerous examples where the parties of cases including the government could not take necessary steps for implementing the verdicts since they were not signed for months.
He also requested the chief justice to refer a case to a three-judge High Court bench for the final disposal if a two-judge bench gives split orders in that case.
Currently, if a two-judge bench gives split orders, the case is sent to a junior judge who gives the final verdict, and it does not seem reasonable, he said.
The lawyer hoped that Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha would instruct the HC benches, which have jurisdiction to deal with writ petitions, to adjudicate public interest litigations on a priority basis.
Nurul Islam also urged the CJ to discuss with senior lawyers once a month ways to solve problems including case backlogs and alleged irregularities in court areas.
