Two killed in road accident

Two people were killed in a road accident on Debiganj-Nilphamari road in Debiganj upazila when a bus hit their motorbike yesterday morning.

The deceased were Rezaul Islam Swapan, 35, a sub-assistant agriculture officer of Domar upazila in Nilphamari and Jakirul Islam, 45, son of Tomizuddin of Sonahar Prodhanpara village of Panchagrh district.

The accident occurred around 7:00am when a Debiganj-bound night-coach rammed the motorbike and leaving them dead on the spot, Babul Akhter, officer-in-charge of Debiganj Police Station, told our correspondent. Aggrieved locals torched the bus and barricaded the road for about three hours, soon after the accident.

Fire-fighters rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control.

The barricade was withdrawn after police assured to take legal steps against the driver.
