'Tortured' domestic help rescued from employer's house
Police rescued a teenage domestic help bearing injury marks on her body from a house in the capital's Dhanmondi yesterday.
Sonia Akhter, 14, was admitted at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, sources in which said the girl became ill as she had not have any food for days.
Officer-in-Charge of Dhanmondi Police Station Nur-e Azam, told this correspondent that a student of a private university in the area informed him over the phone that a domestic help had been beaten and confined in the house, at Dhanmondi Road no 8/A, by the employers.
A team of police had been dispatched there and Sonia was rescued. However, police found none of the employers except for two other female domestic helps, he added.
Quoting Sonia, police said Sonia was not also allowed to go outside and her employer often kept her without food and his wife Rupa used to beat her.
