Three killed in road crashes

Three people were killed in road accidents in Kurigram and Dhaka yesterday and on Sunday.

In Kurigram, a motorbike rider and a bicyclist were injured when they collided with each other at Nazia village of Kurigram municipality yesterday.

The victims-- Utshaw, 17, and Mokhlesur Rahman Mantu, 65, both residents of the municipality-- were rushed to Kurigram Sadar Hospital where the latter succumbed to his injuries.

In Dhaka, a Balaka Paribahan bus ran a policeman over near Rajarbag bus stand on Sunday night, leaving him critically injured.

The victim was identified as Rafiqul Islam, 45, a nayek of Rajarbag Police Line.

He was admitted to Dhaka Medial College Hospital (DMCH) where on-duty doctors declared him dead.

Police detained the vehicle but its driver and helper managed to flee, said Abani Shankar Kar, officer-in-charge of Jatrabari Police Station.

Meanwhile in another incident on the same day, an unidentified man was injured as a vehicle hit him when he was crossing a road in the capital's Bishwa road area.

He later died at DMCH.
