IS suspect denied bail

The High Court yesterday rejected bail petition of Samiun Rahman alias Ibn Hamdan, a Bangladeshi origin British citizen, who came here for allegedly recruiting jihadists for the Islamic State, in a case filed for conspiring to establish an IS group in Bangladesh.

The HC passed the order considering that the petition was not submitted properly before the court.

Additional Attorney General Murad Reza told the court that Samiun could not get bail since there were some serious allegations against him.

Citing from the charge sheet, he told the court that Samiun entered Bangladesh to recruit and motivate young people to join ISIS for fighting in Syria.

Samiun was made accused under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Detectives arrested him on September 28 last year in the capital's Kamalapur following information from some people arrested earlier over alleged links with militancy.
