'Submit Xulhaz murder probe by March 19'

A Dhaka court today again directed the CTTC of DMP to submit by March 19 the probe report of the case filed over the murders of LGBT magazine Roopbaan’s Editor Xulhaz Mannan, and his friend Mahbub Rabby Tonoy in 2016.  

 

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Saiduzzaman Sharif passed the order after Md Monirul Islam, an inspector of Counter Terrorism & Transnational Crime Unit, and also the investigation officer of the case, failed to submit a probe report by yesterday.   

With this, the investigating agency took 21 dates for submitting the probe report to the court.

USAID staff Xulhaz, who used to work as a protocol officer for former US ambassador in Dhaka, Dan W Mozena, and his friend Tonoy were hacked to death inside Xulhaz's flat on April 25, 2016.

Police have so far arrested four leaders and activists of banned militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team for his alleged involvement with the killings.

They are: Asadullah, Shams alias Siam alias Sajjad, Saimon alias Shahriar and Abdullah alias Jubair alias Zaid alias Jabed.

All of them have given confessional statements before magistrates on different dates, court sources said.

According to confessional statements given by the four militants, there were seven people who took part in the killings.
