Storm halts Sylhet's rail link for 10hrs
A rooftop billboard collapsed in Sylhet city's Naiorpur area during Wednesday night's storm. Many of the city's billboards are erected illegally on flimsy structures and without proper safety measures, which can cause serious accidents any time. Locals continue to urge the
authorities concerned to dismantle these hazardous billboards, which keep mushrooming due to their indifference. Photo: Star
Thousands of commuters had to suffer as the train services of Sylhet with the other parts of the country remained suspended for ten hours as trees fell on tracks during a storm in Moulvibazar early yesterday.
The trees, uprooted by the storm around midnight, fell onto the rail tracks in Magurchhara and Lawacherra forest area under Kamalganj upazila, said Rustom Ali Fakir, Bhanugachh railway stationmaster.
The link was restored around 10:00am, Md Abdur Razzak, station manager of Sylhet, told The Daily Star.
