Six shot by robbers
Six people sustained bullet injuries after robbers opened fire on them when they tried to resist the armed gang at Napitkhali village in Patuakhali's Barguna sadar upazila early yesterday, said police and locals.
Some 12 robbers first broke open the door of the tin-shed house of Atul Howlader, 65, and looted around Tk 18,000 and five bhories of gold jewellery worth over Tk 2 lakh after hacking, and shooting Atul and his son-in-law Nibas Chandra, 35, in their legs.
The gang then tried to break into Jalil Mridha's house, some half an hour away, but resident schoolboys of a nearby dormitory woke up by the noise and chased the gang. The robbers fired on the boys injuring four of them and fled away, they added.
Atul and Nibas are undergoing treatment at Barguna General Hospital while the four injured tenth graders were released yesterday afternoon.
Barguna police visited the spots. No case was lodged till filing of this report at 7:00pm.
