Seven killed, 20 hurt in Habiganj road crash

Four die in three other dists; 64 injured

At least seven people were killed and 20 others injured in a road accident on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Jamalpur of Habiganj last night.

Sherpur Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Golam Nurunnabi said the accident occurred when a Sylhet-bound passenger bus of "Hanif Paribahan" hit a truck which was standing beside the road, killing three people instantly.

The injured were taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital where the other four died.

Our Mymensingh correspondent reports, rickshaw-van puller Md Kajal, 23, was killed and some 10 bus passengers were injured as the bus hit the rickshaw-van on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Boilor of Trishal upazila.

The bus plunged into a roadside ditch, police quoted locals as saying. Meanwhile, Ibrahim Khalil, 35, of Sadar upazila was killed and four others were injured after a bus hit a human hauler carrying them in Mashkanda.

The injured were admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.

Our Bogra correspondent reports, trucker Abul Bashar, 30, was killed and at least 20 people were injured as the truck and a bus collided head-on on Dhaka-Bogra highway in Dhankundi of Sherpur upazila.

Our Khagrachhari correspondent adds, Mohammad Kabir, 20, was killed while 30 others were injured as a bus carrying them overturned in Board Office area of Matiranga.
