The Supreme Court yesterday upheld a High Court verdict that cleared the way for a lower court to run the trial proceedings of a corruption case against former Dhaka City Corporation mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka.

The Anti-Corruption Commission filed the case on June 29, 2010, against Khoka and 12 high officials of the then DCC on charges of irregularities in recruiting 49 officials to different posts in the corporation and in promoting its two officials between October 18, 2006 and November 20, 2006.

On May 30, 2012, the HC rejected a petition filed by Khoka challenging the legality of the case proceedings.

The SC yesterday passed the order dismissing an appeal filed by the BNP leader, who is now in the USA for treatment, challenging the HC verdict. All the accused in the case got bail from the HC in July 2010.
