Sadharan chhatra parishad to uphold democratic norms, values

Bangladesh Sadharan Chhatra Odhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad has pledged to accommodate all the first-year students by ousting outsiders from the dormitories if it wins the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) polls scheduled for March 11. 

Nurul Haque Nur, vice president contestant in the election from the platform, made the pledges while he was carrying out election campaign on the Dhaka University Campus ahead of the election.

Nur, who spearheaded the quota reform movement on the campus, said that they would eliminate the so called “gono and guest-room culture” and the culture of coercing the students to attend political programmes.

Claiming that the quota reform activists came under attack by the activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League, student front of Awami League, Nur said, “We will work for the betterment of all students irrespective of their political identities if we are voted in the election.”

As the election pledges, the platform said they would establish a study center on the country’s Liberation War to represent the “true history” of the war that took place in 1971.

The spirit of the War of Liberation will be upheld and human rights will be established by improving democratic norms and values in a bid to make disparity free country as well as the DU campus, Nur said.

They promised to ensure healthy food at hall’s canteens, adequate number of bus for the non-residential students, scholarship for the poor and meritorious students, working freedom of all TSC-based socio-cultural organisations, he added.

The platform promised that it will form a “Ducsu service team” to help the students in crises instantly and will form a “career help center” to enhance professional skills of all students, he said.

If they win the election, they will address the issue of seat crises in libraries and will publish PDF version of all books of the library.

The platform also promised to address the issue of DU affiliated seven collages and evening courses as per the students’ demand.

The platform promised to work for the formation of an active proctorial team to boost up the security measures on the campus.

The platform also promised to take initiative to stop all sorts of sexual harassments, repressions, muggings and addiction on the university campus, he said.

The freedom of speech and political co-existence for all student bodies on the university campus will be ensured if the platform wins the election, the quota reform leader said.
